LEARNING MORE SCRIPTURAL TRUTH

Most of us here today and others have made our start in our spiritual life by receiving the Savior by the name of “Jesus Christ.” Many of us were also keeping Sunday for the Sabbath because we had not learned about these truths yet. Did that mean that we were less saved because of our ignorance? NO! I believe if a person is truly sincere when they first receive and accept the sacrifice of the Savior for the penalty of their sin, that the Heavenly Father will forgive their sin and will save them even though we are unlearned. A new believer in Yahoshua who hears new scriptural truth and receives the truth, then Yahvah will give us more truth! That is how we grow in the knowledge of the Savior and of the Father. We will be learning the rest of our lives!

Mark 4:23  If any man have ears to hear, let him hear.
24  And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.

When we hear and receive Yahvah’s instruction, then the scriptures tell us the Holy Spirit will make known to us what sin is and guide us into all the truth step by step. Then it will only be with the measure that we are willing to receive and keep Yahvah’s instruction.

John 16:7  Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
And when he is come, he will reprove [#1651 to convict] the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
13  Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.

Luke 11:28  But he (Yahoshua) said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of Yahvah (God), and keep it.

A GOOD NAME

Proverbs 22:1  A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

Ecclesiastes 7:1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

Everyone is known by their name, your parents or someone gave you your name. It is a means of identification to identify who you and I really are. Are you satisfied with your name or would you rather change your name? Our character is identified with each of our names! Did you know that our name is very important to us and whether or not our name is in the Book of Life will determine our future for eternity!

Luke 10:20  Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.

Philippians 4:3  And I intreat thee also, true yoke-fellow, help those women which labored with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow-laborers, whose names are in the book of life.

EVERYTHING HAS BEEN NAMED

Genesis 2:20  And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.

Psalms 8:3  When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
Psalms 147:4  He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names.

Isaiah 40:26  Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth.

THE FATHER’S NAME IS HOLY

The disciples asked Yahoshua: “teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1). Then Yahoshua told them: “When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed (Holy) be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth” (Luke 11:2b). He stated that the Father’s name is “Holy and when the disciples were to pray, they too were to state in their prayer: “Hallowed (Holy) be thy name.” Even in the Old Covenant the Word declares that the Creator’s name is holy! Here are just a few of many:

Psalms 33:21  For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
Psalms 99:3  Let them praise thy great and terrible (awesome) name; for it is holy.
Psalms 103:1 Bless YHVH, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.
Psalms 105:3  Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek YHVH.
Psalms 106:47  Save us, O YHVH our Elohim (God), and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.

“Holy” in Psalms 33:21 (Online Hebrew Lexicon (English)
06944 ko’-desh qodesh ko’-desh
from 06942; TWOT-1990a; n m

AV-holy 262,
1) apartness, holiness, sacredness, separateness

GIVE YHVH THE GLORY DUE HIS NAME

Psalm 29:2, “Give unto YHVH the glory due unto His name; worship YHVH in the beauty of His holiness.”  (The same is in Psalm 96:8 and I Chronicles 16:29).

This is a command to give glory due to His Holy Name! It was YHVH Elohim that wrote the ten commandments on the tables of stone and He wrote His own name EIGHT TIMES in the ten commandments as “YOD HEY VAV HEY” or “YHVH” (Yahvah, commonly called Jehovah or Yahweh). When the translators came to the name in the Hebrew scriptures, they substituted the name with the word “LORD” (all four letters in capitals) in place of the name!

David Stern’s Complete Jewish Bible changes “YHVH” to “ADONAI” while other English versions use the title “the LORD” in place of the name. Other languages use the equivalent of “LORD” in their language which is not a translation or transliteration. This act of deleting and adding is a direct violation of the commands Not to add or take away” in Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; Jeremiah 26:2 and also of what our Saviour said in Matthew 5:18,19; Luke 16:17! He did NOT destroy the law, He said so!

HONOR TO WHOM HONOR IS DUE

Malachi 1:6  A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is mine honour? and if I be a master, where is  my fear? saith YHVH of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised thy name?
7    Ye offer polluted bread upon mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of YHVH is contemptible.

Contemptible:

Easton’s Bible Dictionary
0959 baw-zaw’ bazah baw-zaw’  a primitive root;
1) to despise, hold in contempt, disdain
1a) (Qal) to despise, regard with contempt
1b) (Niphal)
1b1) to be despised
1b2) to be despicable
1b3) to be vile, worthless
1c) (Hiphil) to cause to despise

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Dictionary
0959 baw-zaw’ bazah baw-zaw’ a primitive root
to disesteem:--despise, disdain,
contemn (-ptible), +think to scorn, vile person

So both dictionaries declare the word “Contemptible” means: not esteemed, worthlessof little or no value! The priest were claiming His name valueless! Isn’t that about the same way people are speaking today? His name is not important, so why put it in the scriptures, just put in a substitute “the LORD” in its place and that is supposedly just fine! Is that giving honor to whom honor is due? NO, it is not giving honor to Yahvah!

If you removed the names of William Shakespeare or Webster or any other author from off their books, it would show dishonor or disrespect to the authors. So it is also a dishonor to remove the name of the Author of the scriptures from the scriptures. So why delete the Creator’s name out of the bible when His name is still written in the Hebrew scriptures 6,823 times? We are commanded to give honor to whom honor is due (Romans 13:7). So removing the name of YHVH from the scriptures is NOT giving honor to the Author of the scriptures, which is SIN!

Malachi 1:8  And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith YHVH of hosts.

Yahvah required the first born and the best animal to sacrifice for an offering. This was the only sacrifice holy and acceptable. A substitute sick, lame animal sacrifice was not acceptable! Would the substitute Sunday, replacing the 7th Day Sabbath, be acceptable or holy unto Yahvah according to scripture? So why would a substitute name given to the Creator be holy or acceptable? Can man make or create anything holy!

His Name Great Among the Gentiles

Malachi 1:11  For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same my name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto my name, and a pure offering: for my name shall be great among the heathen, saith YHVH of hosts.
12  But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of YHVH is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even his meat, is contemptible.
13  Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith YHVH of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith YHVH.

Have we ever said anything like Israel did, “what a weariness is it” or just in modern English, “Oh, how boring and tiresome the services are!” “I don’t get anything out of the services.” (Usually it’s because I’m not putting anything into the services)! Or we have our minds on other things of interest during services instead of having our minds on the interest of worship to Yahoshua. This is NOT giving glory to His name, just the opposite! The Sabbath is a day set aside from all our work, pleasures and everything else for the  purpose of worship to the Creator.

Malachi 2:1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is for you.
If ye will not hear, and if ye will not lay it to heart, to give glory unto my name, saith YHVH of hosts, I will even send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings: yea, I have cursed them already, because ye do not lay it to heart.

DO NOT TAKE HIS NAME IN VAIN

Exodus 20:7  Thou shalt not take the name of YHVH thy Elohim (God) in vain; for YHVH will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain.

Vain:

Easton’s Bible Dictionary

07723 shav’ or shawv

from the same as 07722 in the sense of desolating; TWOT-2338a; n m 1) emptiness, vanity, falsehood
1a) emptiness, nothingness, vanity
1b) emptiness of speech, lying
1c) worthlessness (of conduct)

In other words, to make the name “worthless,” “emptiness, nothingness, vanity” is exactly what the copiers of the scriptures did when they removed it from the scriptures and substituted it with a title, “the LORD” all in capitals. In Leviticus 19:12 it tells us not to profane his name! This “profaning” also includes dissolving the name of the Creator from the scriptures!

Leviticus 19:12  And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy Elohim (God): I am YHVH.

profane:

Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Dictionary
02490 khaw-lal’ chalal khaw-lal’
a primitive root [compare 02470]; TWOT-660,661; v
prop.  to bore, i.e. (by impl.) to wound, to dissolve; fig. to profane

In Nehemiah 13:15-18 Israel was profaning the Sabbath by working on that day and not resting according to the commandment. They were not cursing or swearing, but just dissolving or setting aside the Sabbath “rest day” that Yahvah commanded to be kept! The same word “profaning,” #2490 is used. So in the same manner by setting aside and dissolving Yahvah’s name from the scriptures is also profaning his name!

As stated before, we are commanded not to add or take away from the Scriptures: Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32; Proverbs 30:6; Jeremiah 26:2b “. . . all the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word.” In this command in Jeremiah26:2b, we are commanded to speak His words and “diminish NOT a word.”

FORGETTING HIS NAME EQUAL TO IDOL WORSHIP

Psalm 44:20,21  If we have forgotten the name of our Elohim (God), or stretched out our hands to a strange god; shall not Elohim search this out? For He knoweth the secrets of the heart.

Jeremiah 23:26,27  How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? Yea, they are prophets of deceit of their own heart; which think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten My name for Baal.
28  The prophet that hath a dream, let him tell a dream; and he that hath My word, let him speak My word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? Saith YHVH.

The people that forget His name for Baal are compared to the “chaff” and those that remember His name and “speak My word faithfully” are compared to the “wheat”! So to forget His name is put on the same level as going after strange gods (Psalms 44:20,21)! The words “Baal” and “Lord” both have the same meaning. Both mean:  master, ruler, owner, or husband!

01168 bah’-al Ba‘al bah’-al
the same as 01167, Greek 896 Baal; TWOT-262a
AV-Baal 62, Baalim 18; 80
Baal = "lord"

How would you feel if your closest loved one would forget your name when introducing you to someone? Or would just refuse to use your name, that wouldn’t show much love or respect to the one you love the most, would it? Why wouldn’t it also be disrespectful in the spiritual realm also?

GENTILES GIVE HEBREWS GENTILE NAMES

In the scriptures it is recorded that Gentiles had a reputation of giving Hebrews Gentile names in place of their Hebrew names. Many times these Gentile names were in honor to their pagan gods of worship. Some examples in the scriptures:

Genesis 41:45   “And Pharaoh called Joseph, Zaphnath-paaneah; . . .”
Esther 2:7   “And he brought up Hadassah, (that is Esther,) . . .”
Daniel 1:6,7, Vs. 7 “. . . for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hanaiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and unto Azariah, of Abed-nego.”
Daniel 4:8  “But at the last Daniel came in before me, whose name was Belteshazzar, according to the name of my god, and in whom is the spirit of the Holy Elohim: . . ”

In the New Testament the Savior’s mother’s name was changed from Miriam to Mary. This is explained in #3137 in Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance Greek Dictionary. To the name of Eleazar was given the name of Lazarus. King James’s translators changed the name of Jacob (Yacov) to the name of James, #2385 in Strong’s.

NEW COVENANT NAME FOR SALVATION

Joel prophesied the entire church age in Joel 2:28-32 and Peter spoke of the same in Acts 2:16-21 Paul stated the same in Romans 10:13 and declared that all who call on the namehebrew text YOD HEY VAV HEY(YHVH) shall be saved! Does that mean there are two names for salvation in the New Covenant?

Joel 2:32 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of hebrew text YOD HEY VAV HEY
(YHVH) shall be delivered (saved);  (New Covenant = Acts 2:21; Romans 10:13).

COMMANDED TO BELIEVE ON THE NAME OF THE SON

I John 3:23   And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the Name of His Son . . .,  [but what is the Name of His Son?]

Proverbs 30:4  Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? Who hath gathered the wind in His fists: Who hath bound the waters in a garment? Who hath established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if thou knowest it?    [If this is such an easy question, why did He ask it?]

Matthew 1:23  Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, Elohim (God) with us.

Yet where can you find that his name would actually be Emmanuel? It wasn’t! The name “Jesus” does NOT mean or translate Emmanuel. It does NOT give any indication that Elohim (God) is with us. So how is that a fulfillment of prophecy? In the King James version of Hebrews 13:8 it states that: “Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today and forever.” Yet you can’t find the name of “Jesus” or “Yeshua” as the prophesied name of Messiah in the entire Old Testament in the King James version or any English version! The name “Yeshua” (#3442 Strong’s Hebrew Dictionary) only means “he shall save.” This definition doesn’t even come close to meaning “Elohim (God) with us.” Messiah’s name is foretold what it was to be in the Old Covenant!

SAVIOR’S NAME PROPHESIED

Amos 3:7 YHVH will do nothing, but He revealeth His secret unto His servants the prophets.

Jeremiah 23:5,6  Behold, the days come, saith YHVH, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. In His days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely; and this is His name whereby He shall be called, hebrew text YOD HEY VAV HEY
(
YHVH) our righteousness.

The Branch is given the name of “YHVH” in the Hebrew text and the same name is put in the margin of a King James Version as Jehovah,” (NOT Yeshua, Jesus, or Iesous)! Same in Jeremiah 33:15,16. All foretold prophecy give Messiah’s name as “YHVH” for the “Branch” in the Old Testament! “Hoshua” = (Savior) is the office or position he holds. The only contracted form in the prophets is given in Zechariah 6:11,12.

Zechariah 6:11,12  Then take silver and gold, and make crowns, and set them upon the head of Joshua (Yahoshua) the son of Josedech, the high priest; and speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh YHVH of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The Branch; and He shall grow up out of His place, and He shall build the temple of YHVH:

So looking at the high priest, Joshua (Yahoshua), Yahvah said, “Behold the man (Yahoshua) whose name (Yahoshua) is the Branch;” So the Branch’s name was to be the same as the name of the high priest, Yahoshua. This is the only contracted form of the name of the Messiah in the prophets and Torah of the old Covenant.

The translators changed the name of the Savior from Yahvah-Hoshua (Yahoshua) to the Greek name of Iesous. The Latin = Iesvs commonly known today as (Jesus). This was an attempted transliteration of the Aramaic name of “Yeshua,” but this name, “Yeshua,” was NOT the prophesied name of Messiah in the entire Old Testament Hebrew scriptures. Where can it be found in the prophets? It must be revealed there (Amos 3:7)!

Also the letter “J” wasn’t invented until the 17th century and wasn’t even used in King James first bible. King James used “Iesvs” in his version. I have a copy of the reprint of the original King James Version. So the “J” [Jay] pronunciation is just a little over 300 years old. There is no letter “J” in the Hebrew or Greek alphabet!

YHVH REMOVES HIS NAME FROM JUDAH IN EGYPT

It seems that the same problem that exists today existed during the time of the Savior. The name was substituted even back then. Yahvah told Israel that those who went to Egypt against his command, he would take His name out of their mouths. Are those today who will not use the Holy name still in Egypt?

Jeremiah 44:24  Moreover Jeremiah said unto all the people, and to all the women, Hear the word of YHVH, all Judah that are in the land of Egypt:
25  Thus saith YHVH of hosts, the Elohim (God) of Israel, saying; Ye and your wives have both spoken with your mouths, and fulfilled with your hand, saying, We will surely perform our vows that we have vowed, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto her: ye will surely accomplish your vows, and surely perform your vows.
26  Therefore hear ye the word of YHVH, all Judah that dwell in the land of Egypt; Behold, I have sworn by my great name, saith YHVH, that my name shall no more be named in the mouth of any man of Judah in all the land of Egypt, saying, Adonai YHVH liveth.

Messiah Reveals Father’s Name to His Disciples

John 17:6  I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
25  O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.
26  And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

In Yahoshua’s prayer to the Father he stated that he revealed or made known his Father’s name to his disciples!!  He said: “I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it:”
So he continued to declare it, the Father’s name, he said so! To be like Messiah, shouldn’t we teach what he taught which includes teaching the Holy name of the Father? His name is written eight times in the 10 commandments by his own finger.

THE DEVIL’S NAMES ARE HEBREW

The Hebrew word for the devil, “SATAN” (adversary) is carefully transliterated into the Greek scriptures, then into the English just letter for letter as it is in the Hebrew text! The excuse is that well, we just don’t speak Hebrew. Then how can people use the Hebrew names for the devil and can’t use the Hebrew name of the Creator! Belial and Beelzebub are also Hebrew names for the devil transliterated into English and used today by non-Hebrew speaking people!

From Genesis through Malachi, Hebrew names are transliterated from Hebrew to English or other languages in some form or another to bring out a close pronunciation of the Hebrew. Also look at the genealogies in Matthew 1 and Luke 3 and you will find that all are Hebrew names until you come to the Saviour’s name, then they switch to a Greek name. Where is the consistency? Why isn’t the name of Iesous (Jesus) used for the book of Joshua? In Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8 the Greek text has “Iesous” for the name of “Joshua” the son of Nun (See KJV)! This is not a valid reason for doing what they did!

CONCLUSION

We are commanded NOT to add nor take away from the scriptures ! When reading the scriptures, YHVH said: “ALL the words that I command thee to speak unto them; diminish not a word:” (Jer. 26:2b). YHVH put His own name there in the scriptures to be read and taught, not to be removed!

We are commanded to believe on the name of His Son:

I John 3:23  And this is His commandment, that we should believe on the Name of His Son YHVH Hoshua (abbreviation as Yahoshua) the Messiah, and love one another, as He gave us commandment.
24 And he that keepeth His commandments dwelleth in Him, and He in him. And hereby  we know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit which He hath given us.

Ephesians 2:8-10   For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of Elohim (God): NOT of works, lest any man should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Yahoshua the Messiah unto good works, which YHVH hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

After receiving this free gift of salvation through faith in Messiah, can a believer continue to sin: to lie, steal, cheat, commit murder, commit adultery, blaspheme, dishonor parents, worship other gods, or dishonor the Sabbath, etc? The scripture teaches those who continue to SIN have NOT really repented!

Luke 13:3,5  I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Proverbs 28:13  He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.  (See I Corinthians 6:9,10; Galatians 5:19-21).

John 14:15  If you love Me, keep My commandments.
24  He that loveth Me NOT keepeth NOT My sayings: and the word which you hear is not Mine, but the Father’s which sent Me.

I John 2:3  And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Isaiah 8:20  To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

Revelation 14:12 Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of Elohim and have the faith of Yahoshua. (Revelation 12:17)
